Nessebar Municipality is located in Southeastern Bulgaria and is one of the constituent municipalities of Burgas Region. The town of Nessebar is located northeast of Burgas, on a peninsula connected to the coast only by a narrow isthmus. It was founded more than 3200 years agoin the beginning of the 1st century AD. the city became part of the Roman Empire and was called Mesemviria. During this period, the city established itself as an important economic and cultural centre, and after the Roman Empire moved its capital to Constantinople and adopted Christianity as its official religion, Christian temples began to be built in Mesemvriya.

Nessebar is famous for its churches built in the Middle Ages. On the territory of the Old Town, on an area of less than 3,000 square meters, there are as many as seven temples built within four centuries - between the 11th and 14th centuries. Two of them - St. Spas" and "Sv. Stefan", have been turned into museums. Geographical position, boundaries, size[ The municipality covers the north-easternmost part of Burgas district. With its area of 420,443 km² it occupies 9th place among the 13 municipalities of the district. Its boundaries are as follows: - Dolni Chiflik municipality in the north and Byala municipality in Varna district; - to the west and south-west - Pomorie municipality; - to the east - the Black Sea.

Relief, waters, climate

The territory of the municipality of Nessebar is divided into three zones: coastal, plain and mountain. Nearly 3/4 of the territory of the municipality is occupied by the easternmost parts of the Eastern Stara Planina, respectively Eminska Planina with the highest point of Mt Goztepe (520 m), located about 5-6 km north-northwest of the village of Kosharitsa. The rest, south and south-west of the municipality, is flat and is occupied by the wide and flat valley of the Hadziyska River and its tributary the Byala River.
The waters are sea, groundwater and river. The entire territory of the municipality falls within the Black Sea catchment area. The main rivers are two: to the south the Hadzhiyska River with its left tributary the Byala River and to the north, along the border with the Varna district, the Dvoinitsa River with its right tributary the Kurudere. On the Hadzhiyska River, north-west of the village of Tankovo, is the large Poroy Dam, the waters of which are used mainly for irrigation.

Climate
The climate is temperate-continental, with a maritime influence along the coast. The soils are mainly cinnamon forest. The beach resources of the municipality are among the largest on the Bulgarian Black Sea coast. Natural resources are the most important factor that determines and forms the main sectoral structure of the municipal economy - business tourism, recreation and sport.

One of the main attractions of Nessebar is the Church of Saint Stephen, which is a well-preserved medieval church dating back to the 11th century. Other notable churches include the Church of St. John the Baptist and the Church of Christ Pantocrator. In addition to its historical attractions, Nessebar also has a lively tourist environment, with many restaurants, cafes and bars serving visitors.
