A trip along the Black Sea coast is something unforgettable, during it you will see with their own eyes the beautiful places in Bulgaria. Balchik is in immediate proximity to Albena, Golden Sands, Kranevo and the port of Balchik is the third one of significance in Bulgaria after Varna and Burgas.

The area Tuzlata is located at 4 km to the east of the town and is renown with its healing mud. Undeniably, the biggest attraction in the resort is the unique Botanic garden, which is situated immediately to the seashore. It was created in 1955 with the participation of some of the best world-famous botanists.
In Balchik you can visit the Botanical Garden and the Palace of the Romanian Queen. The Palace and the Botanical Garden in Balchik, united in an architectural-park complex, are a piece of earthly paradise and a must-see tourist site on the Bulgarian Black Sea coast. They are located about 50km north of Varna. The complex originated as a summer residence of the Romanian Queen, who fell in love at first sight with the small piece of Bulgarian land on the Black Sea coast. Visiting Balchik for the first time in 1921, the Romanian queen Maria remained fascinated by the beauty and tranquility of the picturesque seashore and not long after decided to return and stay there forever. Thus, in 1924, the construction of the Queen's palace complex began, designed by Italian architects. In the botanical garden there are more than 3000 species of plants from all over the world, including subtropical and tropical exotics. There are about 370 labelled plants, shrubs and trees. During the warmer months of the year, there is an outdoor display of succulents (some of which have been flowering for 100 years) and cacti, of which there are over 600 species. They can be seen indoors all year round.

Visit the Tulip Parade in Balchik to enjoy the planting of over 54,000 bulbs of tulips, hyacinths, daffodils, muscari and more that will bloom in the spring of 2024 as early as April in the gardens of Balchik University Botanical Garden.
Of all, tulips alone number 50 000, of over 90 varieties. All-new varieties for the garden, which visitors will be able to see for the first time this spring, are 32 across all groups, with the Triumph group - medium early flowering tulips - being the most prevalent. Balchik is also famous for its historical museum, where eight unique white marble statues of the mother goddess Cybele and over 18 marble tablets with fully preserved inscriptions in ancient Greek are on display.

The palace complex consists of unique botanic garden (the largest in the Balkans), the central palace, many villas, terrace-like park, gardens, alleys, paths and alcoves facing the sea. The palace was residence of the Rumanian queen Mariya in the beginning of 20 century and became favourate spot for privacy and rest of the queen. Today, collections of plants from all over the world are located in it, numbering over 2000 different species. The plant species pertain to 85 families and to over 800 sorts with incredible variety of colours and forms.

The botanic garden ranks second in Europe with its collection of unidimensional cactuses after the one in Monaco. The park is the only one of its kind, which provides problem-free access to the alleys for people with physical disabilities. Besides its Botanic garden and the Palace of Queen Mariya, the town attracts the tourists with its authentic atmosphere, which exhales from the steep lanes.

The art gallery, the ancient church "St. Nikola", the history and ethnographic museum are only part of the cultural sites, which have to be visited. Nice place for walks is the coastal alley 4 km long, the port and the small neighbouring streets. There are also many small coastal restaurants and establishments which offer seafood and European cuisine.
